Vista’s UAC is Affirmed by Sinofsky to be Annoying

Author: Egle | Files under Windows Vista registry
windows_vista_green_b.jpgSteven Sinofsky, the head of Windows' development at Microsoft has finally admitted that the User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista might have been a little bit troublesome. Sinofsky said that his in-box was full of developers' suggestions about what he could do with the UAC. He said that Vole received a lot of feedback concerning Vista and had to come back and re-evaluate. Eventually, they had to ask themselves one question; what did we learn from this?

By giving the nod to developers who've seemingly provided a lot of feedback, similar to "certain commercials," Steve Sinofsky, chief of Microsoft platform acknowledged that maybe User Account Control in Windows Vista might have been a little annoying. In turn, the new operating system Windows 7 containturn-user-account-control-on-or-off.pngs additional UAC settings.

Sinofsky claimed that with UAC, Microsoft had what he defined as "the best intentions" in mind. However, its attention to informing the user about what's going on and to getting the users consent "possibly went too far."

He also admitted that the device driver model, supposedly wasn't ready at the time Vista was launched. Sinofsky said that UAC is going to be included in Windows 7. However, he avoided to mention what it would look like. Windows 7 made some very important modifications to the most-reviled feature of Vista's User Account Control (UAC).

With the new UAC users are provided with more control over prompts. Also, UAC lowers the numbers of prompts, makes them more intelligible, and has a neat slider control for customizing how it works. The new UAC is definitely superior to the old one for home users and small business users. As for enterprise users, it is yet to be seen how useful it will be.
